January again – 2026

As I look back to last January I am dismayed to read how wet it was. Here we are again in 2026. We have survived storm Goretti but it’s still wild, wet and windy! Looking on the bright side we have managed to fit so much into this dark and gloomy month. The evenings are already getting lighter. I used to cycle to work and got so excited when I could get home without my cycle lights on. Small wins make a difference to how we feel during these dark winter months.

It’s been a busy start to the year, and to January. I was asked to give a talk to to a local group to raise funds for their village hall. The subject was one that is close to my heart (or gut in this case), it was on the Gut Microbiota. Entitled ‘Gut microbiota, fad or future’, we looked at different aspects of the gut microbiota and it’s relationship to health and disease. It was very well attended and we finished with a demonstration on how to make delicious kefir at home. A great start to 2026.
